On June 25th, iNET Interactive held its second annual iNET Cares Day at Matthew 25: Ministries. iNET Cares Day is an idea developed by the iNET staff in 2008 as a way to give back to the community and those in need.

Last year’s iNET Cares Day was held at The Wellness Community. The Wellness Community is part of an international nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people affected by cancer. iNET spent an afternoon performing general outdoor maintenance including yard work and weed pulling to help beautify the facility.

The 2010 iNET Cares Day event was held at Matthew 25: Ministries Blue Ash, Ohio. Matthew 25: Ministries is an international humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization helping the poorest of the poor locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. The mission is achieved by acquiring obsolete, slightly distressed, or overstock inventory from corporations, hospitals, and individuals in the United States. These goods include clothing, personal care products, medical supplies, non-perishable food, cleaning products, educational materials, and other items essential for daily survival. These donated goods are processed at the Center for Humanitarian Relief in Cincinnati and then shipped via forty-foot seagoing containers and by semi-trailers throughout the United States and around the world. In 2010, Matthew 25: Ministries has helped 7.2 million people and has shipped in excess of 289 containers filled with over 6.4 million pounds of goods.

The iNET staff worked the afternoon in Matthew 25: Ministries’ warehouse sorting and packaging donated items. Troy Augustine, iNET’s CEO commented, “It was great for iNET to have the opportunity to assist a local organization dedicated to providing aid to those in need on a global basis.” Anita Bowman, Warehouse Manager at Matthew 25 stated, “On behalf of the board members, staff, and the families we help, thank you iNET for taking the time to lend a hand. Volunteers like you, play an essential role in the work that we do.”

We are all looking forward to iNET Cares Day 2011!

On Saturday, June 26th, the iNET team and their families are gathering for a fun and thrilling day at Kings Island, a world-renowned amusement park located just outside Cincinnati, Ohio. Although most of the day will be spent challenging many of the biggest, baddest, longest, fastest and best rides in the world, or for families with young kids, hanging out at Planet Snoopy (Amusement Today Golden Ticket award 2001 through 2009), the team will merge at the picnic area in the afternoon for lunch and other festivities.

Every summer iNET sponsors a family event and brings together the entire iNET team including its many remote team members from around the world. The event supports iNET’s values. In addition to flex-time, flexible personal days, and tele-commuting, the family event is another way for iNET to demonstrate its commitment to a work/life balance.

Kings Island is an excellent location that satisfies the diverse interests of the iNET team with tons of rides and attractions for the whole family. Known for its thrill rides including The Beast, DiamondBack and FireHawk, the anticipation is building for me to see my comrades’ expressions after getting off a roller coaster that swings you 115 feet in the air through five inversions at speeds of more than 50 miles per hour – all while facing the ground!! Can’t wait to see those pictures!!! And next week’s “water-cooler” stories? I am sure they’ll be more than one memorable experience shared from this weekend.

Following in the footsteps of her soon-to-graduate cohort, Alicia Howrey, a junior Quantitative Economics major at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, has joined the iNET team as an intern. Alicia will be working with the Corporate Development department. In particular, she will be conducting market research and providing general support with iNET’s HostingCon and Search Marketing Standard properties.

“We are excited to have Alicia join the iNET team. She comes highly recommended and will be an asset to our Corporate Development efforts. The internship will provide Alicia with the opportunity to gain real world experience that complements what she is learning in the classroom,” commented Mark Sancrant, Director of Corporate Development. “Miami University has a tradition of developing talented students and we are pleased to have another outstanding student join our team this year.”

Over the past five years, iNET has hired a number of interns to assist on special projects. The students interviewed are from among local colleges and universities including Miami University, Wright State, Xavier University and the University of Cincinnati. iNET Interactive is fortunate to have access to world-class universities and colleges that produce outstanding young talent in the Cincinnati and Dayton area. The interns gain valuable business experience while iNET gains creative thinking and a hard work ethic for tackling important projects and research initiatives.

Welcome Alicia to the iNET team!

What workforce skills are required to succeed in the 21st century? iNET Interactive had the opportunity to send Kevin Gold, Director of Internet Marketing, to Wyoming high school in Cincinnati to serve on a volunteer panel with two Proctor and Gamble (P&G) employees and a Xavier University administrator for a teacher in-service day. The objective for the panel developed by Aaron Marshall, Wyoming High School principal and Michael Overbey, Wyoming High School assistant principal, was to help teachers gain insights to the workforce skills needed to be successful in the 21st century workplace.

The panel was tasked with sharing their individual experiences and ideas on what 21st century skills are and why students should be developing these skills in today’s classrooms. The panel and teacher discussion provided insight into the challenges and, more significantly, the opportunities schools and workplaces have in grooming a 21st century workforce.

As a one of the best high schools in the United States according to U.S. News and World Report, Wyoming High School and its administrators and teachers deserve credit for their forward-thinking on this important subject. Thanks to Aaron, Mike and the Wyoming high school teachers for giving iNET the opportunity to participate. It was a great experience!

We have always known that iNET Interactive is a great place to work. A big thank-you to the Dayton Business Journal and Quantum Market Research for the external validation!

On June 25th, iNET Interactive held its first annual iNET Cares Day. The concept originated from a collaborative brainstorming effort at iNET’s 2008 Hack Day, a day to work on prototypes, pet projects, ideas, new tools and new plans. One idea that resonated with the team was to focus on giving back to our communities. After several planning sessions, iNET Cares Day became a reality.

For those in iNET’s West Chester office, the 2009 iNET Cares Day was held at The Wellness Community in Blue Ash, Ohio. The Wellness Community is part of an international nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people affected by cancer enhance their health and well-being through participation in a professional program of emotional support, education and hope. All services are offered at no cost to cancer patients and their loved ones. The Wellness Community offers a wide array of support and education services including support groups; classes in various mind/body stress management techniques such as yoga, tai chi, Lebed, and healing touch; educational speakers and seminars; healthy cooking classes; community gatherings; and more.

Although it was a blistering hot and humid day in Cincinnati, iNET provided The Wellness Community with general outdoor maintenance including yard work and weed pulling. Linda Brandin, Volunteer Coordinator at The Wellness Community stated, “On behalf of the board members, staff, volunteers, our participants and their families, thank you iNET for taking the time to beautify a place that means so much to the recovery of cancer patients.”

Remote employees participated as well. iNET team members in Kalamazoo, Michigan volunteered their time at the local SPCA with four homeless dogs. Dennis Johnson, iNET’s Community Coordinator, and his wife Lois, a moderator with WebhostingTalk, shared their time at a park with their new canine friends. Dennis commented, “these creatures are in situations they didn’t create. And I’m sure their former providers would be relieved to know that they are being cared for.”

We are all looking forward to iNET Cares Day 2010!

The company picnic started like most picnics do. Cars arriving full of people, food and games. Folks scattering about, setting up tables and making sure all the food, plates, and extras made sense. The kids gravitating to their groups, to do what kids do. Mat brought music for a little background. The weather was perfect – plenty of sun for those that want sun. But we had shade to hold those catching-up conversations. And even an air-conditioned building to eat (and rest) in.

Troy was burning burgers on the grill. Well, maybe not burning, just fanning some foot high flames. They were pretty! He was nearly finished when he had to track down Mat to move the music inside because it had started to sprinkle lightly. 20 minutes later it was a deluge. Hard rain, high winds, thunder, lightening and even some hail thrown in for good measure.

While there were some attendees that resembled taking a shower with their clothes on, we continued to picnic in the safety of the building we had planned on using only sporadically before. The picnic inside from the elements wasn’t even noticed by most. I’m sure the kids would rather have been outside. But even they made do with the hallway as their playground. Good thing we had that building!

Pictures of the even can be seen here.

iNET Interactive has hired Diane Grosvenor as Account Manager for its recently acquired Search Marketing Standard media brand.

Diane comes to iNET Interactive from an exceptional career at leading print and Web media brands including F+W Media, where she served a key role in print and Web media sales. Prior to that, Diane held various marketing and sales positions including as an initial team member helping to launch Frontgate Catalog, now a part of Cornerstone Brands.

“Diane’s sales experience, print and Web media expertise, and her enthusiasm for building long-term relationships, will serve her well at iNET”, stated Kelly Kleiner, VP of Sales at iNET Interactive. “Diane has an impressive history of sales success in times of economic growth and uncertainty which will help take Search Marketing Standard to a new level of success in 2009 and beyond.”

With a proven track record in print and Web advertising sales, Diane is exceptionally positioned to grow the advertising for Search Marketing Standard’s print publication as well as its various online media properties.

iNET Interactive acquired the two-year old Search Marketing Standard magazine and three related web sites in August, 2008, with plans to increase advertising, circulation and grow traffic to the sites. “It’s a publication that makes sense for every marketing professional to read, so the growth potential is impressive,” states Diane Grosvenor. “I am very excited to be a part of the iNET Interactive team.” Diane’s hire makes her the ninth new addition to iNET’s team in 2008.
